Abstract

This article investigates the duality of institutions (official versus indigenous) in the area of education in Pakistan. It is assumed that some poor people, due to various structural reasons, cannot afford to get their children enrolled in official schools. Instead, they send their kids to Madrassas (indigenous institutions) which provide free education, food and boarding logistics.
